10 Questions with Tom Darling

Thomas Darling is the Director of Para Rowing for USRowing. His job is to identify and develop nine para athletes to race in the Paralympics. Tom is a three time Olympian: 1980 (boycott), 1984 (Silver Medal, Men’s 8+) and 1988 (5th, Men’s 4+). He graduated from Syracuse University in 1981 with a BA in Psychology and earned a MEd from Boston University 1991. In 2008 he started volunteering at Community Rowing in Newton, Massachusetts, with the Adaptive Rowing program and created the first Adaptive Indoor Rowing Championships (AIR-Cs) in 2009, and subsequently introduced para events at the CRASH-Bs. Justin Farina is a high school physical education teacher from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada with a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University (Ohio) and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Windsor (Ontario). He played Division I baseball while at Miami and competed in shot put at Windsor. Justin is a multiple SkiErg world record holder in the men’s 30-39 division and participates in virtual competitions and challenges on both the Concept2 Indoor Rower and SkiErg. Charlotte Hollings is a successful Masters rower with a deep commitment to the sport. Charlotte spent five years on the USRowing National Team (1985, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1994), during which she won a Silver Medal (World Championships, 1985) and a Gold Medal (1994), both in the lightweight four. She started rowing in 1978 at TC Williams High School (Alexandria, Virginia) and then rowed four years at the University of Virginia when it was a club program. She has coached at Stanford University, Boston University and Cornell University. In 2001, she started Calm Waters Rowing (a full-service sculling camp) with her husband, John. Concept2 Employees Learn to Scull

Concept2 is full of athletes. Some of these athletes come from the core sports of our business like rowing, Nordic skiing and cycling. Others are CrossFitters, runners, equestrians, golfers, snowboarders and tennis players. For the employees who haven’t spent much time in a boat, we make sure to offer the opportunity each summer. This year, we headed up to Craftsbury Sculling Center so that our employees with less experience behind the oar could try rowing.
